OHANA KAI SURFBOARDS

Now available at Cold Water Surf Shop-off the rack, and for custom order. These boards are built of western red cedar, with an interior frame of quality marine plywood, sheathed in fiberglass and uv resistant epoxy. They are 20 to 30 percent heavier than similar shapes in polyurethane and polyester, but are much more ding resistant, and with similar glide and projection seen in balsa or vintage longboards. Come in and see the difference, and talk to our staff about choice of woods, grain patterns and shapes. Our primary focus is on longboard designs, but we have had excellent results with short boards as well. These boards are a continuation of the wooden board tradition from the koa olo’s and alaiia of pre contact Hawaii, to the birth of modern surfing and Tom Blake’s designs, to Robert Simmons, and all the balsa boards of the 50’s and 60’s. We would love to build a board for you that you will be surfing on twenty years from now. Also available are modern Hawaiian paipo designs, suitable for waves up to double overhead. Where do you want your next board to come from…….a can of oil, or a tree? Consider the beauty, speed, and drive of a modern classic.
